  13. Welcome to VMiX 386 multitasker and multiuser.  VMiX 386 differs from the
  14. old VMiX 286 by the added capability to operate in protected mode, with
  15. 80386 based personal computers.
  16.  
  17. The user interface is essentially the same, regardless of the processor
  18. detected in your PC or AT (8088, 8086, 80286, or 80386).  With the 80386,
  19. each new task receives its own 640Kb memory partition by mapping extended
  20. memory, in virtual 8086 mode.  This frees VMiX from having to multitask
  21. only in conventional memory or swap tasks back and forth from extended
  22. memory.  We hope that you will continue to use VMiX as it evolves into
  23. the 90s.

  25. We assume that you do not wish to go through a lot of documentation
  26. before starting to use VMiX, so we have included VMiX.DOC as a quick
  27. start-up guide.  An on-line manual is included as MANUAL.DOC, however
  28. the printed manual will usually be more up-to-date.
